WWTP Facility Upgrade
Project Overview
The City of Aurora is in the process of upgrading the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Improvements to the existing wastewater treatment facility include a new filter and operations building, new grit structure, new chlorine contact chamber, new clarifier control structure, replacement of various pumps and other process equipment, and electrical and mechanical system upgrades. Construction began in 2025. Check back here for project construction updates as they become available.

Summer 2027 – Final Completion of Wastewater Treatment Facility Improvements
Project Updates
July 2026
- The grit chamber structure has been completed and is scheduled to be placed into service in Fall 2026.
- Construction of the chlorine contact tank is complete. Installation of piping and chemical feed equipment is ongoing and is expected to be ready for service in Fall 2026.
- The new operations building structure has been completed. Interior building work remains underway, and the filters have been delivered to the site. Filter startup will coincide with service to the new chlorine contact tank in Fall 2026.
- Construction of the secondary clarifiers control structure has been completed and the structure is in operation.
- Rehabilitation work on the existing secondary digester has been completed, including replacement of the exterior veneer.
- Installation of the new standby generator for the wastewater treatment plant has been completed.
