2026/2027 CSAH 100 & Local Street Improvements

Project Overview

The City of Aurora is reconstructing West 1st Ave North (Pine Grove Park- North 1/2 St East), West 2nd Ave North (North 4th St West – Railroad Ave), West 4th Ave North (North 4th St West – Mesabi East High School), North 4th St West (West 1st Ave North – West 4th Ave North), and North 3rd St West (CSAH 100 – Mesabi East High School) roadway and utilities. The project will replace the storm sewer, watermain distribution pipe and service laterals, and most of the sanitary sewer collection system and service laterals. It will also reconstruct the Fire Hall/Community Center parking lot.

In March 2024, the City received a $1.5 million grant through MnDOT’s Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP) to assist with pavement replacement costs. In April 2025, the City received a $1 million Safe Routes to School grant to reconstruct the Bradach Lumber and Mesabi East School intersection. The City has also obtained grants through MPCA and MDH to assist with utility replacement costs.

Total Project Cost – Approximately $15 million

St. Louis County is leading a project in 2026 to reconstruct 3rd Ave North/Main Street (CSAH 100) beginning at a point .20 mile east of MNTH 135 and ending at 1st Ave North for a total distance of approximately 1.08 miles. To address the poor pavement condition, St. Louis County will also mill and overlay the portion of Main St (CSAH 100) beginning at 1st Ave North and ending at the railroad crossing for a total distance of 0.12 miles in conjunction with this reconstruction project.

The city of Aurora will be working with St. Louis County to replace water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer along the CSAH 100 Corridor.
