WWTP Facility Upgrade

Project Overview

The City of Aurora is in the process of upgrading the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Improvements to the existing wastewater treatment facility include a new filter and operations building, new grit structure, new chlorine contact chamber, new clarifier control structure, replacement of various pumps and other process equipment, and electrical and mechanical system upgrades. Construction began in 2025. Check back here for project construction updates as they become available.

Project Timeline

Spring 2025 – Construction Began
Summer 2026 – New Operations Building Completion
Summer 2027 – Final Completion of Wastewater Treatment Facility Improvements

Project Updates

July 14, 2025

  • Construction started at the wastewater treatment plant in May of 2025.
  • The contractor is working on the new grit chamber structure and new chlorine contact basin along with installing new site piping.
  • The grit chamber is expected to be online with the existing system later this fall.
  • Construction of the new operations building will begin later this summer and will include installation of new filtration equipment to meet mercury limits.
  • Various treatment equipment and pump replacements will be occurring as equipment is delivered to the site.

April 10, 2025

  • The contractor plans to begin construction at the wastewater treatment plant in May of 2025 beginning with construction of the new chlorine contact basin and clarifier control structure.
