Blue Earth County has completed a Self-Evaluation of pedestrian facilities within its jurisdiction and an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan that documents the following:

1. Self-Evaluation Process
2. Identified Barriers to Accessibility in Pedestrian Infrastructure
3. Plan and Schedule for Removal of Barriers from the System

Blue Earth County will adopt Part 1 along with Part 6 below as the full ADA Transition Plan for the County.

Part 1 – Draft MAPO ADA Transition Plan
This is the overarching MAPO ADA Transition Plan and Inventory document that identifies process requirements, methodology, and public outreach for all MAPO Partner Agencies.

Part 6 – Draft Blue Earth County ADA Transition Plan
This is specific to Blue Earth County serving in concurrence with Part 1 as the official Blue Earth County ADA Transition Plan and Inventory.

Overview

As part of a larger effort led by the Mankato/North Mankato Area Planning Organization (MAPO), Blue Earth County is working to ensure pedestrian infrastructure along county roads is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Each jurisdiction within MAPO is performing a Self-Evaluation of the policies, practices and pedestrian infrastructure within public rights-of-way to identify ADA deficiencies that pose barriers to safe and efficient access for all users. Each jurisdiction will also complete an ADA Transition Plan that will provide a plan, schedule, and planning-level costs for upgrading pedestrian infrastructure and the removal of barriers to accessibility within the public rights of way.

Data Collection for the Blue Earth County Self-Evaluation has begun and should conclude by spring of 2018. The Blue Earth County ADA Transition Plan development process will conclude in March of 2019 and will be included in the greater MAPO ADA Transition Plan document along with the other MAPO jurisdictions.
