The contractor successfully completed all remaining bituminous paving work this week. The contractor is currently working on the final sodding and turf restoration work along Elmwood Avenue and anticipates finishing this work by the end of the weekend.
The permanent signing and temporary striping are planned to be completed early next week on Monday and Tuesday. Following the successful completion of the striping, all roadways are planned to be reopened.
The new tree plantings are anticipated to be completed the final week of October and this will be the final operation until work resumes next spring.
The new electrical work is continuing to progress on the south end of Elmwood Ave. This work will continue throughout the fall and winter months with an anticipated completion next spring in time for the reconstruction of roadway.
Lastly, a couple of notes regarding the concrete and bituminous pavement heading into the winter season: You may see some minor cracking of the new concrete sidewalk and curb. This damage has been caused by the contractor and will be repaired prior to final acceptance next year. A thorough walk-thru is planned to be completed next spring to identify all areas requiring removal and replacement. Second, you may see that the bituminous pavement is low compared to the new curb. This is an intentional decision to not complete the final layer of bituminous pavement until next spring to allow for correction of any potential settlements or defects. You may also see minor ponding at all roadway low points, however this practice is commonly implemented in Minnesota and provides for the best final product long term.
This is planned to be the final newsletter for the year. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their patience and understanding throughout the construction this summer.
Additional weekly updates will be provided ahead of resumed construction next spring for the final three (3) stages of construction anticipated for final completion in fall 2021.
