TAP Lighting & Sidewalk Improvements

Project Overview

The City of Plainview received a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant from MnDOT to construct street lighting, sidewalk, and bus turnout improvements. The proposed proeject will include:

  • New street lightning along W. Broadway Avenue, from Highway 42 to 7th Street NW
  • Sidewalk, bus turnout and pedestrian crossing improvements along W. Broadway Avenue from 5th Street NW to 7th Street NW in front of the school
  • New sidewalk along the north side of 3rd Avenue SW from 1st Street SW to 4th Street SW

Street lighting along W. Broadway Avenue will be decorative lighting and will include fixtures for the installation of banners, flower baskets, flags, and holiday decorations.

The improvements in front of the school will include curb bumpouts to improve crossing safety at the intersections of 5th, 6th, and 7th Street NW. The school will also be funding the installation of new crossing flashers at the 5th and 7th Street NW intersections, similar to the ones near Kwik Trip and the City Pool along Highway 42.

Traffic along W. Broadway will be detoured for a period of time during construction. The detour plan can be viewed here: Detour Plan

Construction on the street lighting portion of the project began in the fall of 2019. Construction on the remaining improvements is expected to begin in May 2020.
