Project Updates

April 7, 2020

Removal of the existing weir and the construction of the new weir occurred last month in the Lake Waconia outlet channel.  An updated punchlist has been provided to the contractor for final paving, restoration, and clean-up items.  Work on these items will commence later this month.

November 19, 2019

Last week lighting and restoration work occurred. Removal of the temporary signal system at Waconia Parkway North and Hwy 10 occurred yesterday. Additional changes to this intersection will still occur pertaining to striping, removal of traffic control signs, and removal of concrete barriers. Minor restoration work will continue along Waconia Parkway North this week as well.

Additional restoration and repair items will occur in the spring. If you have a concern you would to be reviewed for possible restoration or repair in the spring, please contact one of the people on the “Contacts” tab.

Thank you for your patience during the construction of this very important project for the City of Waconia.

November 11, 2019

Last week the first two lifts (layers) of  bituminous asphalt were placed, signs were installed, and the roadway was striped. Waconia Parkway North was opened to traffic on the afternoon of Friday, November 8, and detour signs were removed. This week miscellaneous lighting and restoration work will occur. Work will also be occurring this week and next week to remove the temporary signal system.

November 4, 2019

Last week the remaining aggregate base was placed on Waconia Parkway North, the guardrail was installed, and additional restoration work occurred. The concrete curbing has cured and has passed the necessary strength testing. Therefore, paving the first lift of bituminous on Waconia Parkway North is occurring today. Remaining work that still needs to occur before the roadway can be opened are paving the second lift of bituminous, installing signs, placing striping, installing lighting, and some restoration items. The roadway opening is still anticipated to be occur by November 15th.

October 28, 2019

Last week the remaining curb and gutter was poured. This week the remaining aggregate base will be placed and restoration work will occur behind the curb. The guardrail along the curve near Cedar Point Park is also scheduled to be installed this week. The new curb must “cure” for 1 week before the roadway can be paved. Therefore, paving is likely to occur the week of November 4th.  The trail is planned to be paved after the roadway is paved.  Waconia Parkway North is still anticipated to be open by mid-November.

October 21, 2019

Last week the box culvert was completed and the temporary dam was removed. Watermain installation work was also completed. This week the storm sewer work will be completed and street construction from Scott Lane to Lakeview Terrace Blvd will commence. Waconia Parkway North is anticipated to be open by mid-November. This is dependent on the weather, construction progress, and the passing of the necessary utility and roadway material tests.

October 14, 2019

Last week additional work on the box culvert occurred.  Now only one section of the box culvert remains, and that will be installed this week.  Following box culvert installation the contractor will finish the storm sewer and watermain items near the box culvert.  That work is set to occur late this week and early next week.  After these utility items are all complete the remaining street construction items will commence.

October 8, 2019

Last week the box culvert was extended to near the north edge of the roadway.  Approximately another 30 feet of box culvert installation remains.  Storm sewer work was completed along the trail near the lakeshore.  Also, the fence was installed on top of the retaining wall near the lake shore.  The upcoming schedule includes box culvert work as well as placing additional aggregate base material on Waconia Parkway North between Walnut Street and Lakeview Terrace Blvd.

September 3o, 2019

Last week the south half of the box culvert was installed.  This week work on the north half (upstream end) of the box culvert will commence.  Late last week the curb and gutter was poured on Waconia Parkway North from Lake Street to near Lakeview Terrace Blvd.  After this concrete cures for approximately one week additional aggregate base will be placed on the roadway.

September 23, 2019

Last week the grading of the rain gardens was completed along with the retaining wall construction along the trail/lake. The street excavation and aggregate base placement was also completed with the exception of the area adjacent to the box culvert construction.  Construction of the box culvert is progressing. The bypass flow channel has been set up and about half of the pilings have been placed.

This week work on the box culvert will continue. A few of the pipe sections will be placed, then the bypass flow will have to be rerouted before the remaining box culvert work can occur. Curb and gutter is also scheduled to be placed late this week from Lake Street to near Lakeview Terrace Blvd.

September 16, 2019

Last week’s wet weather prohibited much work from being completed.  Work scheduled for this week includes box culvert excavation and piling placement, street excavation/aggregate placement from Scott Lane to the box culvert, rain garden construction, and retaining wall construction.

September 9, 2019

All city utility installation work on Waconia Parkway North is now complete except for that near the proposed box culvert.  Bypass pumping setup and excavation for the structural pilings necessary for the proposed box culvert will begin this week if the weather cooperates.  Other work that is scheduled for this week includes retaining wall construction along the trail near the lake and rain garden construction.

August 26, 2019

All work on Walnut Street for this year is complete except for turf restoration, adjusting manholes/gate valves, and minor repair/restoration/clean-up items.  Next year the final lift of pavement will be placed along with the final striping.

Work scheduled for this week on Waconia Parkway North includes retaining wall construction and watermain installation.  Another watermain shut-off will be required in the near future and impacted properties will be notified.

August 19, 2019

On Walnut Street work is occurring related to signing, striping, retaining wall construction, and boulevard restoration.  Walnut Street will be opened on Wednesday 8/21 prior to the school open house.  The areas to be opened include the Walnut Street / First Street intersection, the Walnut Street / Main Street intersection, and the entrance to the parking lot north of Bayview Elementary School.  The Walnut Street / Lake Street intersection as well as Waconia Parkway North will still be closed.

On Waconia Parkway North storm sewer and watermain installation work is still occurring.  Also, the street has been excavated and aggregate base placed from Walnut Street / Lake Street to near Lakeview Terrace Blvd.  Curb and gutter will soon be placed on the next section of the project from Lakeview Terrace Blvd to Walnut Street / Lake Street.

August 12, 2019

The first lift of pavement has been placed on Walnut Street.  The second lift is scheduled for tomorrow or Wednesday.  Walnut Street will be opened from First Street to the entrance to the Bayview Elementary School parking lot prior to the 8/21 school open house.  The Walnut Street / Lake Street intersection will continue to be closed.

Storm sewer work is ongoing on Waconia Parkway North.  Off-site storm sewer work will also commence later this week.

August 5, 2019

The sanitary sewer work in Cedar Point Park and along the lake has been completed.  The placement of aggregate base on Walnut Street has also been completed.  Walnut Street is scheduled to be paved late this week (please note there will be no parking allowed on Walnut Street during the Carver County Fair).  Work on Waconia Parkway North will continue with storm sewer installation and street excavation / aggregate base placement.

July 29, 2019

Utility installation work along Waconia Parkway North and in Cedar Point Park will continue through this week.  Additional aggregate base is being placed on Walnut Street.  Walnut Street will be paved if the aggregate base dries out and the street section passes the required compaction test.

July 22, 2019

Street excavation and placement of aggregate base work on Walnut Street was completed last week.  Concrete curb and gutter will occur on Walnut Street this week (starting at the south end at First Street and working to the north).  Work scheduled on Waconia Parkway North this week includes the relocation of a gas main, and ongoing watermain replacement work.  Watermain shut-offs will be required for this work, and those that will be impacted have been notified.

July 15, 2019

All utility installation work on Walnut Street was completed last week.  Street excavation and placement of aggregate base will occur on Walnut Street this week (starting at the south end at First Street and working to the north).  Work scheduled on Waconia Parkway North this week includes the relocation of a gas main, removal of a retaining wall, and watermain installation work.

The temporary signal system at County Hwy 10 and Waconia Parkway North was activated on Monday, July 8th.

July 8, 2019

Watermain installation work on Walnut Street will be completed today.  Once the required pressure test and bacteria test pass it will be put back online.  Storm sewer installation work will begin on Walnut Street this week.  Also, temporary water will be hooked up to the apartment building in preparation for utility work to occur on Waconia Parkway North in that area and in Cedar Point Park.  Finally, the striping work for the temporary signal system at County Hwy 10 and Waconia Parkway North is scheduled for today.  Once that work gets completed, the signal system will be activated.

July 1, 2019

Weather has interrupted work for today and looks as though it may do so for additional days this week.  Utility installation work is ongoing on Walnut Street.  There is about a half of block of watermain installation work left.  Once that has been completed the contractor will work on storm sewer installation work on Walnut Street.  Additional removal and erosion control installation work will be occurring in Cedar Point Park and along the lakeshore.  Finally, the remaining bituminous roadway surface of Waconia Parkway North will be removed in the near future (exact timing TBD).

June 24, 2019

Erosion control installation work is still occurring this week.  Utility installation work began today with watermain replacement on Walnut Street alongside Bayview Elementary School.  Watermain shut-offs will be required for this work, and those that will be impacted have been notified.  Utility installation work (watermain, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer) will continue for the next several weeks.

June 17, 2019

The project area is now fully closed and a detour is in place.  This is anticipated to be in place until the late fall.  Erosion control installation work and removal work is underway.  The construction work will primarily be occurring alongside Bayview Elementary School for the next few weeks.  Anyone needing to visit Bayview Elementary is asked to park on First Street and enter the south end of the building.  Once watermain installation work begins adjacent to Bayview, some water shutoffs will be necessary.  If you are impacted by these shutoffs, you will be notified directly with a door hanger at your home.

June 10, 2019

The project area will be fully closed starting tomorrow and a detour will be in place.  Work will begin with removals on Walnut Street near Bayview Elementary School at the south end of the project.  Anyone needing to visit Bayview Elementary is asked to park on First Street and enter the south end of the building.  Utility installation work is scheduled to commence next week.

May 22, 2019

To aid in the movement of traffic while the detour is in place the City Council authorized the installation of a temporary signal system at County Road 10 and Waconia Parkway North.  The design and coordination work necessary for this signal is underway.  It will not be operational when construction starts but is planned to be operational on or about July 1st.

May 1, 2019

The preconstruction meeting for the project was held on Monday, April 29th.  The Contractor is tentatively planning to close the road and start construction the week of June 3rd.  Prior to that you may see some minor work occurring in and around the project area (tree clearing, erosion control installation, detour signing installation, utility markings, construction survey staking, etc.).

April 2, 2019

The project was awarded to Geislinger and Sons, Inc. from Watkins, MN.  Work with Geislinger on the construction contracts, permits, and project submittals is underway.  Once a construction schedule has been prepared and distributed we will pass that information along.

March  2019

Updates will begin after a construction contract has been awarded.  Please check back in late April / early May.
