Project Updates

October 23, 2020

The project is substantially complete at this time. Ongoing repair and punchlist items will be addressed this fall as weather allows. Remaining repair and punchlist items, as well as the paving of the final lift of pavement, will be completed next year. The Public Hearing for the portions of the project that are being assessed will be held on November 16, 2020.  Property owners who will be receiving an assessment will receive a mailed notice for this meeting. Thank you for your patience and understanding these past few months during construction.


October 16, 2020

This week, on the street reconstruction portion of the project, the second lift of pavement was placed on Main Street and the north block of Walnut Street, the final retaining wall repairs/adjustments were made, and street signs were installed. On Waconia Parkway North, the roadway was patched and topsoil was placed in preparation for seeding.

A punchlist is currently being prepared. This is a list of remaining work items and repair items needed to be completed by the contractor. October 8, 2020

This week, on the street reconstruction portion of the project, trees were planted, remaining concrete work was completed, sod was placed, and other miscellaneous restoration items occurred. The contractor will water and maintain this newly placed sod for 30 days. After that, the sod maintenance will become the responsibility of the property owner.  Upcoming work includes sign installation and placing the second lift of blacktop on Main Street.

This week, on the Waconia Parkway North watermain portion of the project. topsoil was placed/graded and street patching preparation work occurred.  Upcoming work includes final street patching and other miscellaneous restoration items.


October 1, 2020

This week, on the street reconstruction portion of the project, bituminous driveways were paved, topsoil was placed, and other miscellaneous restoration tasks occurred. Upcoming work includes concrete restoration and tree plantings. This week, on the Waconia Parkway North watermain portion of the project, the old watermain was abandoned and the first lift of the street patching was completed. Upcoming work includes raising the gate valves, seeding, final street patching, and other miscellaneous restoration items.


September 24, 2020

Retaining walls were constructed and topsoil was placed on the street reconstruction portion of the project this week. Work scheduled for this portion next week includes bituminous driveway construction, concrete steps and sidewalk installation, topsoil placement, and additional miscellaneous restoration items. Remaining watermain installation and connection work was completed this week on the Waconia Parkway North watermain portion of the project. Work scheduled for this portion next week includes abandoning the old watermain and patching the street. Work at Oak Avenue, 94th Street, Sugarbush Park, and Somerwood Drive are all substantially complete.


September 17, 2020

This week, sidewalk construction is occurring on the street reconstruction area of the project. The work is anticipated to be completed early next week. Next week, turf restoration is scheduled to occur on the southern parts of the street reconstruction area (Stage 1A) and restoration work will continue. On Waconia Parkway North, watermain testing items occurred this week. Assuming the watermain tests pass and we have favorable weather, construction on the crossings and services will commence next week. Final clean-up items are winding down on Oak Avenue, Sugarbush Park, and 94th Street. The remaining project component is a drainage improvement near the CSAH 10 underpass at Somerwood Drive. Directional drilling work is scheduled at this location tomorrow with follow-up storm sewer installation work to occur next week.


September 10, 2020

This week, sidewalk construction is occurring on the street reconstruction area of the project. The work is anticipated to be completed early next week. Next week, turf restoration is scheduled to occur on the southern parts of the street reconstruction area (Stage 1A) and restoration work will continue. On Waconia Parkway North, watermain testing items occurred this week. September 3, 2020

Preparation work for the sidewalk in Stage 1B (grading, utility relocations, and aggregate placement) occurred this week. Concrete sidewalk is scheduled to be poured late next week.  On Oak Avenue, striping occurred late last week and seeding occurred earlier this week.  Remaining work on Oak Avenue includes pouring concrete in the median near the signal light and miscellaneous cleanup. 94th Street was paved last week and the only remaining item is crosswalk striping. On Waconia Parkway North, the mainline will be flushed and tested tomorrow into early next week.  If the tests pass, work will then resume late next week on installing watermain crossings and replacing water services.  No work is scheduled to occur over the weekend or on Labor Day.


August 27, 2020

This week, the first lift of bituminous was paved on Stage 1B. Restoration items are ongoing in both stages of the street reconstruction portion of the project (sidewalk, retaining walls, topsoil placement/grading, etc.). Oak Avenue was paved today and striping work is scheduled to occur tomorrow. 94th Street will also be paved this week. On Waconia Parkway North the directional drilling of the watermain is complete. Work on installing the watermain crossings/connections and replacing the water services is underway. This work will occur for the next several days.


August 20, 2020

Grading, topsoil placement, and restoration work is ongoing in Stage 1A (3rd Street, Cherry Street, and the south block of Walnut Street). On Stage 1B (Main Street and the north block of Walnut Street) the remaining aggregate base has been placed. Paving of the first lift of bituminous on Stage 1B is scheduled for early next week.

On Oak Avenue restoration work has occurred along with roadway patching and roadway milling. The paving of the roadway is scheduled for Wednesday of next week. On Waconia Parkway North the watermain is currently being directionally drilled. This works should be completed early next week and then work on watermain connections and service replacements will commence. Traffic control is in place to shift the traffic on Waconia Parkway North to the south to allow for working space. Please drive carefully through this area. Finally, 94th Street is scheduled to be paved after Oak Avenue. This is anticipated to occur on Wednesday or Thursday of next week.


August 13, 2020

Sidewalk and trail construction work is mostly complete on Stage 1A (3rd Street and the south block of Walnut Street).  On Stage 1B (Main Street and the north block of Walnut Street) the street excavation and aggregate base placement was completed. Installation of the curb and gutter also occurred yesterday.  This concrete will now need to cure for at least a week before additional aggregate base can be placed in the roadway.

On Oak Avenue, the trails have been paved and additional concrete work has been completed.  Street patching is scheduled for early next week and then the milling of the roadway is scheduled for late next week.  After the milling work the roadway is ready for paving and striping.  In Sugarbush Park the construction is complete other than restoration items (final grading, tree planting, trail replacement, seeding, etc.).  On Waconia Parkway North the watermain has been fused along the edge of the roadway.  Minor pavement removals necessary for watermain drilling and water service replacements will occur tomorrow.  Direction drilling of this pipe is scheduled to begin on Monday.


August 6, 2020

Utility work on Stage 1B (Main Street and the north block of Walnut Street) is now complete. Street excavation and aggregate placement work on these streets will be completed this week. Curb and gutter is scheduled to be installed on these streets late next week. After this curb and gutter is completed, concrete sidewalk work on Stage 1A is scheduled for late next week or early the following week.

On Oak Avenue the trails are scheduled to be paved tomorrow, and the remaining half of the concrete valley gutters will be poured tomorrow or early next week. This concrete will need to cure for at least one week before milling and paving can occur. In Sugarbush Park, the basing grading and drain tile installation work is nearly complete. Electrical work and tree planting will occur in the coming days. On Waconia Parkway North the watermain is being fused adjacent to the roadway. Directional drilling of the watermain is scheduled for the week of August 17th.


July 30, 2020

Paving of the first lift of bituminous has occurred on Stage 1A streets (3rd Street, Cherry Street, and the south block of Walnut Street).  Grading and aggregate placement for the sidewalk and trail on these streets will begin tomorrow and continue into next week.  Utility installation on stage 1B streets (Main Street and the north block of Walnut Street) is nearly complete, all that remains is storm sewer work on Main Street.  Excavation and aggregate placement on these streets will begin next week.

Work on other projects components away from downtown is also occurring.  This includes grading in Sugarbush Park, trail excavation/grading on Oak Avenue and Community Drive, and utility replacements and concrete work on Oak Avenue.


July 23, 2020

Concrete in Stage 1A (3rd Street, Cherry Street, and the south block of Walnut Street) completed and fully cured this week. Next week, the remaining aggregate base will be placed and compacted, followed by paving on Stage 1A streets. Preparation work for sidewalk will also begin next week. Installation of the sanitary sewer has been completed in Stage 1B (Main Street and the north block of Walnut Street) and watermain will be completed by the end of the week. Service connections on Main Street will occur throughout next week, followed by storm sewer installation.

Other work away from the street reconstruction portion of the project is also occurring. Removals and utility work occurred on the Oak Avenue and Community Drive portion of the project this week, and utility work is scheduled to be completed this week. Concrete work is scheduled to begin next week as well as traffic signal work at the intersection of Oak Avenue and Community Drive (weather permitting). Work in Sugarbush Park is scheduled to begin next week as well.


July 16, 2020

Street work is progressing on Stage 1A (3rd Street, Cherry Street, and the south block of Walnut Street). Concrete work is occurring on Cherry Street and will likely be completed on Stage 1A this week. Next week the remaining aggregate base will be placed and compacted on Stage 1A streets. On Stage 1B (Main Street and north block of Walnut Street) removals and utility installation work is ongoing. Utility work is complete on Walnut Street and is underway on Main Street. Utility work on Main Street will occur throughout next week.

Other work away from the street reconstruction portion of the project is also occurring.  Removals have occurred on the Oak Avenue mill and overlay portion of the project, and utility replacement work will occur next week. Trail paving on Oak Avenue and Community Drive is scheduled for late next week (weather permitting). Work in Sugarbush Park is scheduled to begin later this month as well.


July 9, 2020

Utility work on 3rd Street and the south block of Walnut Street was completed today. Utility work will commence on the north block of Walnut Street and then on Main Street. Street excavation/construction work will continue on 3rd Street and the south block of Walnut Street this week and early next week. Curb and gutter placement is scheduled to begin on these streets as well. If your driveway is planned to have curb placed in front of it, you will be notified and asked to remove your vehicles from your garage/driveway.


July 2, 2020

Utility work is progressing on 3rd Street and the south block of Walnut Street.  Utility work in these locations will be finished next week (weather permitting), and the contractor will then move over to the north block of Walnut Street and then Main Street.  The temporary water system is currently being set up on the north block of Walnut Street and on Main Street.


June 25, 2020

Utility work is still underway on 3rd Street. Work on installing sewer main, watermain, and services will continue on 3rd Street throughout next week as well. Pavement removal on Stage 1B (Main Street and the north block of Walnut Street) occurred today. Additional removals (curb, sidewalk, driveways, etc.) and the setup of the temporary water system will occur in Stage 1B next week.


June 18, 2020

Tree removal work is complete except for 2 large trees, 1 on Walnut Street and 1 on Main Street. Utility installation work is ongoing. Sewer main and watermain has been installed on the south block of Walnut Street. Work on the Walnut Street sewer and water services will begin soon and be completed next week. Next week installation of the sewer main and watermain will occur on 3rd Street. Next week work on building the base section of Walnut Street will also occur.


June 11, 2020

Utility installation work has occurred this entire week and will continue through next week. This utility work will generally be completed from north to south on Walnut Street and then east to west on 3rd Street. There are no utility mains located on Cherry Street. Tree removals also occurred this week.


June 5, 2020

Removal work has been completed for the first stage of the project. Utility installation also began this week. Sanitary sewer is currently being installed on Walnut Street. Next week, work will commence on watermain installation. Some properties will require a water shut-off before the watermain installation work can begin, and they will be notified with a flyer. Tree removal work is also scheduled to occur next week.


May 28, 2020

Main Street will be temporarily closed for 1 day next week for tree removal work to safely occur.  Please utilize the alleys for parking and access to your home while this work occurs.

The main gate of the fairgrounds located at the intersection of Third Street / Burandt Blvd and Walnut Street will be closed until further notice.  Please utilize the east gate located on Fourth Street for access to the fairgrounds during the road closure.


May 26, 2020

Work will commence this week on the street reconstruction portion of the project.  This work includes traffic control setup, erosion control installation, tree removals, pavement removal, and other removals.  Pavement removal work will occur on Third Street, Cherry Street, and the south block of Walnut Street.  Please refrain from parking vehicles on these streets if possible.


May 6, 2020

A construction contract for the project was awarded to GMH Asphalt Corporation of Chaska, MN. Work on contracts, insurance, bonds, and project submittals is underway. A construction schedule has not been set yet, but construction is anticipated to begin in a few weeks. A letter will be sent to property owners on the street reconstruction portions of the project later this month to provide contact information and to provide a further update on the construction schedule once it is received.


April 7, 2020

The final design has been completed, and the project is currently out for bid.  Pricing from contractors is due at the end of the month.  Consideration to award the project to the low bidder will then occur at a City Council meeting in May.
