The project will include installing a new sanitary sewer main underneath Lakeshore Drive from Colcord Point to Alexander Street. The new sanitary sewer line will be installed using tunneling to minimize impacts to the area.
During construction regional traffic on Lakeshore Drive will be detoured around the project area via 220th Avenue and 155th Avenue (see figure). The project area from Colcord Point to Alexander Street will remain closed to through traffic and will be restricted to resident access within the project area.
Your garbage pick-up and mail drop-off locations are anticipated to remain the same during construction. Future notifications will be provided if these locations do need to change.
If there are any specific items (landscaping, irrigation, pet fences, etc.) within the existing Lakeshore Drive right of way please let the project team know. The project team will work with the contractor to mitigate impacts or salvage and reinstall these items as necessary.
Following completion of the project, residents will have the option to redirect their sanitary service lines from the existing sanitary sewer main near the lake to the new sewer main in Lakeshore Drive. Reconnecting your service to the new sewer main will allow the Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary District to coordinate with you on releasing the existing sanitary sewer easement on your property. In general, this will require that everyone upstream (to the west of your property) be switched to the new sewer main before easements can be released. Please let the project team know if you anticipate relocating your sewer service to the new sewer main in Lakeshore Drive and we will coordinate that process with you.
