1st Avenue Reconstruction

Project Overview

The City of Aurora is reconstructing the West 1st Avenue North roadway and utilities from CSAH 100 (Main Street) to Pine Grove Park (N 5th Street). The project will replace the storm sewer, watermain distribution pipe and service laterals, and most of the sanitary sewer collection system and service laterals. It will also reconstruct the Fire Hall/Community Center parking lot.

In March 2024, the City received a $1.5 million grant through MnDOT’s Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP) to assist with pavement replacement costs. In April 2025, the City received a $1 million Safe Routes to School grant to reconstruct the Bradach Lumber and Mesabi East School intersection. The City has also obtained grants through MPCA and MDH to assist with utility replacement costs.

Total Project Cost – Approximately $15 million
