June 20th, 2025

2025 Park, Walnut, Elm and Linden Project Update

  • This past week, the contractor has focused primarily on storm sewer construction in Elm Street. Connection to the existing storm sewer system in E Commerce Drive has been made and new, larger diameter pipe extended north to Park Street. Commerce Drive is again open to traffic with a temporary gravel surface in the location of the new storm sewer connection. The contractor has also removed concrete and millings from Walnut Street and is currently installing the temporary water supply system in preparation of beginning underground utilities, potentially later in the week.
  • A reminder that plantings, irrigation lines, or other private decorative improvements in the right-of-way may be impacted by construction. Property owners are advised to remove, salvage, or otherwise address these items as there are no provisions for removal or replacement by the City or contractor. 2025 Park Knoll Resurfacing 

  • Curb repairs have been backfilled with topsoil in preparation for seed. Dates for final wear course paving have not yet been determined.

Haralson Drive Extension

  • The City Council recently approved an addition to the project that will complete the extension of Haralson Drive to the intersection with South Street. Work in this area is not expected until late July.

 

June 13th, 2025

2025 Park, Walnut, Elm and Linden Project Update

  • The contractor has successfully installed sanitary and water services on Elm Street and Linden Street. The next focus will be storm sewer construction beginning on Elm Street at Commerce Drive, working north to Park Street. Expect a short-duration road closure on Commerce Drive Monday to connect the new pipe network to the existing system. A reminder that plantings, irrigation lines, or other private decorative improvements in the right-of-way may be impacted by construction. Property owners are advised to remove, salvage, or otherwise address these items as there are no provisions for removal or replacement by the City or contractor.
  • Looking ahead, when finished with storm sewer on Elm Street, the contractor will focus on storm sewer construction on Park Street from Elm Street to the east before moving over the western half of the project.

2025 Park Knoll Resurfacing 

  • The contractor has successfully completed all base course paving and is currently raising manhole castings and water valves. CenterPoint Energy was on-site to repair a natural gas distribution pipe leak near the intersection of State Street and Old Hwy 169 Blvd. This is expected to be completed by the end of the day (June 13). Dates for final wear course paving have not yet been determined.

Haralson Drive Extension

  • The City Council recently approved an addition to the project that will complete the extension of Haralson Drive to the intersection with South Street. Work in this area is not expected until late July.

 

June 6th, 2025

2024 State Street Project Update

Upcoming for next week June 9

  • Final roadway striping and pavement markings are anticipated to be completed this week. All work will be completed under traffic, with flaggers and proper traffic control in place to ensure safety.
  • The City’s contractor, Ryan Contracting, continues to monitor turf restoration progress and is working to ensure healthy and acceptable growth.
  • Final cleanup and punch list items are still in progress as the project moves toward completion.
  • This is the final weekly construction update for this project.

2025 Park, Walnut, Elm and Linden Project Update

  • The contractor has successfully installed sanitary sewer and watermain on Elm Street and Linden Street and will now begin to reinstate service lines to the dwellings. With service lines completed, storm sewer construction will begin on Elm Street at Commerce Drive and work north to Park Street. Expect a short-duration road closure on Commerce Drive around mid-week. A reminder that plantings, irrigation lines, or other private decorative improvements in the right-of-way may be impacted by construction. Property owners are advised to remove, salvage, or otherwise address these items as there are no provisions for removal or replacement by the City or contractor.
  • Looking ahead, when finished with storm sewer on Elm Street, the contractor will focus on storm sewer construction on Park Street from Elm Street to the east before moving over the western half of the project.

2025 Park Knoll Resurfacing 

  • The contractor was making good progress with bituminous base course paving today and plans to finish any remaining streets on Monday. Dates for final wear course paving have not yet been determined.

  • The City Council recently approved an addition to the project that will complete the extension of Haralson Drive to the intersection with South Street. Work in this area is not expected until the latter half of July.

2024 State Street Project Update

Upcoming for next week June 2

The contractor anticipates the following work: 

  • Pearson Bros, the subcontractor handling the seal coating, is scheduled to be onsite this week to perform the final sweeping and fog seal, though the exact date is still being finalized. The work will take place along State Street from the beginning of the 30-mph speed limit zone to N Walnut Street (TH 25).
  • No parking will be allowed in this area to support the fog sealing operation. Temporary parking restrictions will be posted in advance.
  • All work will be completed under traffic, with flaggers and proper traffic control in place to ensure safety.

Other project updates

  • Final roadway striping and pavement markings are anticipated to be completed the week of June 16.
  • The City’s contractor, Ryan Contracting, continues to monitor turf restoration progress and is working to ensure healthy and acceptable growth.
  • Final cleanup and punch list items are still in progress as the project moves toward completion.

2025 Park, Walnut, Elm and Linden Project Update

  • Removal of curb, driveway and other miscellaneous items has been focused primarily on Elm Street and Linden Street. The contractor is in the process of installing new sanitary sewer and watermain on Linden Street and when complete will move over to Elm Street. Notices will be delivered to affected areas alerting any planned water shut downs as they occur. A reminder that plantings, irrigation lines, or other private decorative improvements in the right-of-way may be impacted by construction. Property owners are advised to remove, salvage, or otherwise address these items as there are no provisions for removal or replacement by the City or contractor.
  • Looking ahead, following Elm Street utilities the contractor will begin work on Park Street from Elm Street to the east before moving over to the western half of the project.

2025 Park Knoll Resurfacing 

  • Segments of spot curb repairs will be replaced starting Monday. The pavement surface throughout this area has been pulverized and compacted in-place for use as a temporary driving surface. This material will be removed just prior to the first lift of paving, which could occur as early as Thursday, June 5. If there are any rainfall events during the week, paving will likely be rescheduled to the week of June 9. Dates for final wear course paving have not yet been determined. Please observe temporary NO PARKING signs and be aware that freshly placed asphalt can reach temperatures of 300° F and can take several hours to cool – please be mindful of children and pets!

2024 State Street Project Update

Upcoming for next week May 26

  • Ryan Contracting is planned to be onsite to topdress with new topsoil and seed areas where the turf is substandard.
  • Pearson Bros, the subcontractor handling the seal coating, is scheduled to be onsite Friday, May 30 to apply a chip seal coat followed by a fog seal the following week. The work will take place along State Street from the beginning of the 30 mph speed limit zone to N Walnut Street (TH 25).
  • No parking will be allowed in this area on Friday to support the seal coating operation. Temporary parking restrictions will be posted in advance.
  • All work will be completed under traffic, with flaggers and proper traffic control in place to ensure safety.

Upcoming for the following week June 2

The contractor anticipates the following work: 

  • Pearson Bros is scheduled to be onsite this week to preform the fog seal, though the exact date is still being finalized. The work will take place along State Street from the beginning of the 30 mph speed limit zone to N Walnut Street (TH 25).
  • No parking will be allowed in this area to support the fog sealing operation. Temporary parking restrictions will be posted in advance.
  • All work will be completed under traffic, with flaggers and proper traffic control in place to ensure safety.

Other project updates

  • Pavement reclamation is scheduled for Thursday, May 29. Please observe temporary NO PARKING signs. Sections of spot curb repairs are to be removed and poured back the week of June 2.

2024 State Street Project Update

Upcoming for next week May 19

  • No substantial work is planned for this week.  The seal coating work is being postponed to the week of May 26 due to anticipated wet weather and cooler temperatures.

The contractor anticipates the following work: 

  • Pearson Bros, the subcontractor handling the seal coating, is scheduled to be onsite Tuesday, May 27 to apply a chip seal coat followed by a fog seal Wednesday and Thursday, May 28 and 29. The work will take place along State Street from the beginning of the 30 mph speed limit zone to N Walnut Street (TH 25).
  • No parking will be allowed in this area on Tuesday to support the seal coating operation. Temporary parking restrictions will be posted in advance.
  • All work will be completed under traffic, with flaggers and proper traffic control in place to ensure safety.

Other project updates

  • The City’s contractor, Ryan Contracting, continues to monitor turf restoration progress and is working to ensure healthy and acceptable growth.

  • The contractor has successfully removed all trees and stumps in the right-of-way that were either diseased or known to impact construction. Traffic control barriers have been placed and adjusted to allow local traffic to access the area.
  • Pavement, curb, driveway and other miscellaneous removals are scheduled to start Monday, May 19. The contractor will also begin installing and testing the temporary water service. A reminder that plantings, irrigation lines, or other private decorative improvements in the right-of-way may be impacted by construction. Property owners are advised to remove, salvage, or otherwise address these items as there are no provisions for removal or replacement by the City or contractor.
  • Underground utility construction is anticipated to begin on Tuesday, May 27 (weather dependent).

May 9th, 2025

PROJECT UPDATE

Upcoming for next week May 12

The contractor anticipates the following work next week: 

  • Valley Paving, the subcontractor for the project, will be onsite Monday, May 12 to complete the final layer of asphalt (known as the “wear course”) on State Street. The work is expected to be completed in one day.
  • No parking will be allowed on State Street between N Eagle Street and N Walnut Street on Monday to support the paving operation. Signs will be posted in advance.
  • Street sweeping on State Street is planned for Sunday, May 11 and again early Monday morning to prepare the area for paving.
  • All work will be completed under traffic with proper traffic control and flagging.
