The City of Fairmont is planning to improve Blue Earth Avenue in 2026 from Downtown Plaza to TH 15. This project may involve resurfacing of the existing pavement surface and restriping the existing 4-lane roadway to a 3-lane street section with a center turn lane to improve safety along the corridor and protect the left turning movements. It will also include removal of traffic signals at Park Street and Prairie Avenue and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements will be make along the corridor at the existing intersections. These ADA improvements will improve safety and mobility for pedestrians in the corridor.
The city will be gathering public input regarding the new configurations of the intersections at Park and Prairie along with some beautification options for the street segment from Downtown Plaza to Prairie Avenue. Public input will be reviewed, and a final concept design recommendation will be presented to the City Council in July/August 2025. Construction is planned for 2026.
Will help with safety and mobility for pedestrians.
Will improve safety along the corridor and protect left turns
Will improve roadway quality / condition
Will reduce travel times along the corridor

Occasional water shutdowns will be required for the crews to make connections to the existing water lines. We ask for your patience and understanding, as the contractor will do their best to provide reasonable notice and reduce the length of any water shutdowns required. Typically, we will try to ensure at least a one-day notice is given for shutdowns and the outage is limited between 2 to 8 hours long.
Emergency shutdowns may occur as well. This would be an unplanned shutdown due to unforeseen circumstances. In these rare situations, notice will not be provided, and the contractor will work diligently to address the issue and get the water turned back on as soon as possible.
As the project moves forward, parking and access to your property will continue to change. When construction is being conducted adjacent to your property you may have to park in the alley, at a neighbor’s house, or on a side street, where your vehicle is safe and out of the way. Access will be intermittent during underground construction and for longer periods during street grading, curb and pavement construction. Rain will also have an impact on property access. We realize access will be difficult and thank you for your patience. We will communicate access restrictions regularly throughout the project. You may contact Wade Bartz to discuss your needs and concerns.
