Project Overview
The City of Howard Lake is reconstructing several deteriorating streets and utilities. This Street and Utilities Improvements Project will take place during the construction seasons of 2025 to 2027 and will focus on street and utility improvements, including sanitary sewer, water distribution, and storm sewer systems.
The streets within the project area are old and many are beyond reasonable repair. The sanitary sewer system was installed 75 years ago and is experiencing pipe issues such as cracks, failed pipes, infiltrations, and root intrusion. The water distribution system is also aging, and parts of it are too small for current water needs. The pipes in the water distribution system are largely made of 60-year-old cast iron. Similarly, most of the storm sewer system is at least 50 years old.
Safety and reliability are the primary reasons these improvements are needed. Aging infrastructure can lead to system failures, service interruptions, exposure to contaminants in drinking water, and unsafe driving conditions.
Construction will begin in May 2025 and will be completed by Summer 2026.
