Overview
The Swift Avenue and Ripley Street Reconstruction Project will replace deteriorating infrastructure throughout Litchfield. In reconstruction areas, this project will replace aging sanitary sewer, water main, and storm sewers, and fully reconstruct streets with new pavement and concrete curbs and gutters. Some areas will receive new pavement using a mill and overlay technique, which removes the top two inches of pavement and replaces it with a new asphalt surface.
Construction Goals
- Essential infrastructure in the project area is in poor condition and needs to be improved. Addressing deteriorating infrastructure will improve quality of life in the project area by increasing reliability and efficiency of utilities and streets.
- Sanitary sewer improvements include replacing the sewer mains, manholes, and new services from the sanitary sewer to the right-of-way. These improvements will reduce infiltration (clean water entering sewers and reducing system efficiency) and improve reliability.
- Watermain improvements include replacing the existing water main (which is undersized and deteriorating) with new PVC pipe. New hydrants, valves, and services from the water main to the right of way be installed.
- Storm sewer along the project area will be replaced and additional storm sewer added to improve draining, capacity, and reliability.
- Streets will be fully rebuilt after underground utility work is completed in reconstruction areas, which will include a new road base, new pavement surfaces, and new concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter.
