Construction Updates

PROJECT UPDATE:  10-1-2024

Since the last update, utility work and street restoration has been progressing well. The dry weather has allowed the construction crews to maximize their efforts.
All utility construction is complete everywhere north of Main Street, along with Alley 4, Ash Street, and Alley 3 east of Pine Street. The two crews from Holtmeier Construction are currently working on Oak Street and Alley 3. The next areas they work will be Alley B and June Street between Cedar and Maple, before working their way towards Highway 68. Note that the work near Highway 68 will not directly impact traffic on the highway.
M.R. Paving & Excavating has restored all drivable streets and alleys north of Main Street. M.R. Paving & Excavating will continue with restoring Pine Street from Main Street to Alley 4 and then opening up Front Street and Cedar Street when utility construction is complete. The paving crew also completed paving on Cedar Street (from last year’s work) and West Main Street, which is a County Road. The crossing at Main Street and Pine Street was also temporarily paved to combat issues in the winter and spring caused by winter de-icing treatments used by the County and the higher traffic volumes.

CIPP trenchless sewer lining has also been on going over the last week. The lining is complete on the west end of town, by West Main Street, and is almost complete on the East CIPP area by County Road 6.
Topsoil restoration will begin in the upcoming weeks as the remaining streets and alleys are opened. Since we are experiencing dry weather and are leaving the optimum seeding window, the crews are tentatively planning on dormant seeding. This means the seed will be placed later this fall and then it will be in the ground and ready to germinate in the spring with the rest of the grass.

General Notes & Reminders:

  • If you have any sprinkler systems, underground dog fences, or other similar items, please plan on having them repaired (if you have not done so already) and marked out so that the construction crews can work around them and get them in place as the proceed with the final turf restoration.
  • If your street is under construction, please bring your garbage or recycling bins to the nearest open street. Keep bins 30 or more away from construction equipment or barricades so the trucks can get to them. If mobility or access is an issue, please let us know and we will work with you.
  • Please continue to coordinate with Holtmeier Construction and their subcontractor, Underground Technologies, for sanitary sewer televising. This televising is free of charge and the City will have records of your service televising on file upon completion of the project.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience.

PROJECT UPDATE:  8-17-2024

Over the last few weeks, utility work and street restoration has made some progress. Holtmeier Construction has completed sewer work on Pine Street, Alley A, Alley 1, and the east block of Alley 2. The crew on Pine Street will now be working on replacing the sewer down Alley 4 to the east of Pine Street. The other crew will be working on Alley 2 west of Pine Street. These two segments will take a few weeks. One of the crews will also be working on the remaining storm sewer repairs on Dewey Street. Once these areas are completed, the two crews will begin work on the west part of Alley 4 and Alley 3.

M.R. Paving & Excavating has restored all of Dewey Street to a drivable gravel surface, with the exception of a half block between Oak Street and Alley A. Alley E on the east side of the public school parking lot has also been restored to its original gravel surface. The periodic rains have slowed the street and alley restoration slightly more than the sewer work. The ground must be recompacted and firmed up before streets and alleys can be graveled and opened back up to traffic.

Please continue to coordinate with Holtmeier Construction and their subcontractor, Underground Technologies, for sanitary sewer televising. This televising is free of charge and the City will have records of your service televising on file upon completion of the project.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience.
