Project Overview

The City of Waconia is reconstructing Highway 5 between Olive Street / Highway 284 and Main Street in 2027. This project will address both safety and mobility issues by adding dedicated turn lanes, eliminating conflict points, and completing the extension of the trail system along Highway 5. The proposed project is the final phase since reconstruction began in 2012. It will complete the reconstruction and urbanization of Highway 5 throughout the City of Waconia, one of the fastest growing cities in the fastest growing county in Minnesota.

Timeline

  • 2023: Preliminary Design Scoping
  • 2024: Funding Plans, Level 1 Layout Process
  • 2025: Right of Way Acquisition (9 – 12 months)
  • 2025 – 2026: Final Design (12 months)
  • June 30, 2026: Federal Authorization
  • 2026 – 2027: Bid and Construction
