Construction Updates

November 8

Thank you for your patience and cooperation this summer as we have worked to continue to improve our community! As we wrap up the construction season, road and utility work is complete and the road is open to through traffic. Restoration work is completed, and dormant seed has been placed along the road with the intent of encouraging growth in the spring. The contractor plans to return in the spring to address any warranty items including ensuring establishment of grass seed.

 

October 25

This Week

Paving is complete and the contractor focused on the remaining restoration work at the intersection of 3rd Street and Memorial Road.

Next Week

The contractor plans to finish restoration work at the 3rd Street and Memorial Road intersection including seeding. You may also see the contractor working at various points along the corridor to finish miscellaneous items as the project works towards completion.

 

October 11

This Week

The contractor continued restoration work around the Awaysis parking lot and begin paving operations at the intersection of 3rd Street and Memorial Road.

Next Week

The contractor plans to finish paving the intersection of 3rd Street and Memorial Road which will have to cure before boulevard restoration starts. Seeding along paved portions of Memorial Road and striping in the Awaysis parking lot will also be completed. You may also see the contractor working at various points along the corridor to finish miscellaneous items as the project works towards completion.

 

October 4

This Week

The contractor continued restoration work along Memorial Road and completed paving in the Awaysis parking lot. The contractor also started grading the 3rd St and Memorial Road intersection in preparation for paving.

Next Week

The contractor plans to finish prepping the intersection of 3rd Street and Memorial Road and to begin paving operations. They will also begin restoration work around the Awaysis parking lot and are tentatively planning to begin seeding along Memorial Road later in the week.

 

September 30

Last Week

The paving contractor continued working on driveways along Memorial Road and started paving the Awaysis Parking Lot. The contractor started backfilling the boulevard areas along Memorial Road in preparation for seeding. With work adjacent to Lakeshore Drive primarily complete, the contractor removed the lane closure at Memorial road. Note that lane shifts on the highway may remain in place to facilitate the Kwik Star construction.

This Week

The contractor reopened paved portions of Memorial Road on Monday morning! All Memorial Road properties are now accessible from the Lakeshore Drive intersection.

The paving contractor plans to continue work on the Awaysis Parking Lot and will transition to Third Street when the parking lot is complete. The connection from Memorial Road to Third Street will be closed while paving and restoration work is completed.

 

September 20

This Week
The paving contractor continued working on driveways and intakes along Memorial Road and completed the highway patch.

Next Week
The paving contractor plans to continue work on driveways and intakes along Memorial Road. Lane striping and sign installation will also be completed. Traffic control will remain in place until this work is complete.

This Week
The paving contractor continued mainline paving operations over the past week including completing the road transition to Lakeshore Drive.

Next Week
Next week the paving contractor plans to work on driveways and intakes along Memorial Road. Asphalt will also be poured to finish the highway patch. Traffic control will remain in place until this work is complete.

The contractor finished storm sewer in the Awaysis Parking lot and the storm sewer crossing Lakeshore Drive this week. The paving contractor also continued mainline paving operations, traveling north to south.

Next Week
The contractor plans to begin grading and subbase placement in the Awaysis Parking lot. The paving contractor plans to work on the intersection of Memorial Road and Lakeshore Drive. Be prepared for additional changes in the highway traffic control throughout the next two weeks as work progresses.

August 30

This Week
The contractor continued working on storm sewer in the Awaysis Parking lot and crossing Lakeshore Drive this week. The paving contractor also began mainline paving operations, traveling north to south.

 

Next Week

The contractor plans to continue crossing Lakeshore Drive with the third segment of storm sewer and traffic will be shifted to the southern two lanes while this work is completed.  The paving contractor also plans to continue mainline paving on Memorial Road.  Be prepared for additional changes in the highway traffic control throughout the next two weeks as work progresses.

August 23

This Week

The contractor continued working on storm sewer in the Awaysis Parking lot this week. They also completed the first segment to progress the storm sewer across Lakeshore Drive.

Next Week

Next week the contractor plans to continue crossing Lakeshore Drive with the second segment of storm sewer and traffic will be shifted to the outside two lanes while this work is completed.  The contractor also plans to begin paving Memorial Road.  Be prepared for additional changes in the highway traffic control throughout the next two weeks as work progresses.

August 16

This Week

The contractor continued working on storm sewer in the Awaysis Parking lot and continued placing roadway subbase along Memorial Road this week.

Next Week

Next week the contractor plans to begin placing storm sewer across Lakeshore Drive. A traffic lane will be maintained in each direction as the contactor works across the highway and lane shifts will be utilized as the work progresses.  Traffic will be shifted to the north two lanes of Lakeshore Drive next week as this work starts.  Be prepared for changes in this traffic control throughout the next two weeks. The contractor also plans to finish the roadway subbase next week.

August 9

This Week

Following pavement removal in the Awaysis Parking lot, the contractor was able to begin storm sewer installation in that area this week.

Next Week

Next week the contractor plans to continue storm sewer work in the Awaysis Parking lot and begin placing the roadway subbase, both of which are expected to take the entire week. The contactor will also be working on preparing driveways for paving.

August 2

This Week

After completion of the sanitary sewer work last week, the sewer pumping system was returned to normal operation and the temporary conveyance system was taken down. The contractor also focused on completing the roadbed subdrain and started pavement removals in the Awaysis Parking lot.

Next Week

Next week the contractor plans to begin storm sewer work in the Awaysis Parking lot and begin placing the roadway subbase. The contractor expects the current lane closure along the southern lane of Lakeshore Drive will shift to the northern lane during the week of August 5 to help facilitate paving operations along Memorial Road.

July 26

This Week

The contractor completed the majority of grading operations and work on the sanitary sewer piping on the south side of Lakeshore Drive.

Next Week

The contractor plans to remove the temporary conveyance system and begin storm sewer work in the Awaysis Parking lot. They will also be laying drain tile along Memorial Road. The contractor expects the current lane closure along the southern lane of Lakeshore Drive will shift to the northern lane during the week of August 5th to help facilitate paving operations along Memorial Road.

July 19

This Week

The contractor completed installation of the temporary piping system to facilitate work on the sanitary sewer on the south side of Lakeshore Drive.  With the temp piping in place, they were able install several valves at both Memorial Road and Scout Park as part of this work. The contractor also started grading Memorial Road on the north end to prepare the surface for pavement.

Next Week

The contractor plans to continue grading operations and continue sanitary sewer work in the Awaysis Parking lot on the south side of Lakeshore Drive.

July 12

This Week

The contractor continued storm sewer work this week working primarily in the central area of Memorial Road and began constructing the temporary piping system to facilitate work on the sanitary sewer on the south side of Lakeshore Drive.

Next Week

The contractor plans to shift work to the south side of Lakeshore Drive and the east parking lot of Awaysis Park. To facilitate this sanitary and storm sewer work, they will close the east parking lot on Monday and implement a lane shift of the righthand eastbound lane.

July 3

This Week

The contractor continued storm sewer work this week working primarily in the central area of Memorial Rd. With this work complete, the contractor was able to adjust the traffic control on Hwy 7. The gas contractor re-poured sidewalk on the south side of Lakeshore Dr.

Next Week

The contractor plans to continue working north with storm sewer installation and hopes to finish most of the underground work on Memorial Rd. They plan on starting installation of the temporary piping system needed to facilitate work on the sanitary sewer on the south side of Hwy 7 and Scout Park. You may see the contractor prepping the site for this sanitary sewer work that will include closures in the east parking lot of Awaysis Park.

June 28

This Week

The contractor continued storm sewer work this week moving north from the intersection with Lakeshore Drive and out of the southern block of Memorial Road. The contractor plans to be onsite this Saturday ahead of the July 4th holiday. The gas company was onsite to begin restoration work.

Next Week

the contractor plans to continue working north with storm sewer installation. With the July 4th holiday, the contractor will be working through Wednesday. The gas company is expected to continue site restoration work in the area.

June 21

This Week

the contractor plans to continue storm sewer work moving north. The gas company may also be onsite to wrap up their restoration work depending on their schedule.

June 14

This Week

the gas company finished relocation of the new gas lines which will allow the contractor to continue work on the storm sewer. The contractor performed exploratory work in Scout Park to verify utility location for upcoming work.

Next Week

With the gas switched over, next week the contractor plans to continue storm sewer work moving north from the Memorial Road and Lakeshore Drive intersection. The gas company will also be onsite to wrap up their work.

June 7

This week, the contractor installed multiple storm structures in the Memorial Rd and Lakeshore Dr intersection, removed the abandoned sanitary sewer and started exploratory work on the south side of Lakeshore Drive.

Next week

Next week the contractor plans to perform exploratory work in Scout Park to verify utility location ahead of work in the coming month. Storm sewer work may occur later in the week and is dependent on the relocation of the gas main. The gas company is continuing to make progress and expecting to switch over to the new main mid-late next week.

May 31

This week, the contractor finished work on the sanitary sewer and started storm sewer work in the Memorial Rd and Lakeshore Dr intersection.

Next week

Next week the contractor plans to continue work on the storm sewer. Storm sewer work will proceed north and is dependent on the relocation of the gas main. The gas company is continuing to make progress and is finishing up service hookups to the new gas main before switching over from the old main. Much of their work next week will focus on finishing connections on the south side of Lakeshore Dr.

May 24

This week, the contractor continued working on the sanitary sewer. Due to continued rainfall, work progressed slowly.

Next Week

Next week the contractor plans to finish sanitary sewer work and begin work on the storm sewer. Storm sewer work will begin in the intersection of Memorial Road and Lakeshore Drive and proceed north and is dependent on the relocation of the gas main. The gas company is continuing to make progress and is finishing up service hookups to the new gas main before switching over from the old main.

May 17

This week, the contractor finished the watermain in the intersection of Memorial Road and Lakeshore Dr. They also started sanitary sewer work in the Memorial Rd and Lakeshore Dr intersection and progressed north.

Next Week
The contractor plans to finish the sanitary sewer work. Following completion of the sanitary sewer and dependent on the relocation of the gas main, work is tentatively slated to begin on the storm sewer. Should work on the gas main be delayed, the contractor will begin exploratory work in the Kings Pointe parking lot directly south of Memorial Rd. Partial closures of Lakeshore Dr are anticipated if this occurs.

The gas company was also completing work in the corridor this week and will continue working to complete service hookups to the new gas main most of next week.

May 10

This week, the contractor installed watermain in the intersection of Memorial Road and Lakeshore Dr. Work extended through the entire week due to inclement weather.

Next Week
The contractor plans to finish the water main work in the intersection, though no service interruptions are anticipated. Following completion of the watermain, sanitary work will begin in the intersection and continue north along Memorial Road. The gas company also plans to finish their gas main relocation along both Lakeshore Drive and Memorial Road by Friday of next week, barring weather or unforeseen circumstances.

May 3

Last week, the contractor installed sanitary casing pipe in the central portion of Memorial Road. Inclement weather caused the expected work to take the entirety of the week. Preparations were also made to begin pavement removal at the south end of Memorial.

Next Week
For this week, the contractor plans to perform watermain work with a service interruption Monday between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. They will also be closing the south half of Memorial Road to all traffic for pavement removal. Another water service interruption is scheduled for Wednesday between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to facilitate watermain work within the intersection of Memorial and Lakeshore Dr due to rain delays from last week. Notices for both service interruptions have been distributed to the affected business. Sanitary sewer work is tentatively planned for Thursday depending on weather conditions and material availability.

April 29, 2024

Beginning Thursday, May 2, the westbound right lane of Lakeshore Drive will be closed to traffic as the contractor prepares to begin work at the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Memorial Road. The south end of Memorial Road will be closed for the duration of the project starting Thursday as well. Access will still be maintained off Lakeshore Drive to local businesses and from the north end of Memorial Road.

Due to watermain work in this area, water service will be temporarily suspended on Monday, May 6 between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Affected residents and business will be notified via doorhangers prior to the shutdown. If you do not receive a doorhanger and experience water pressure loss, please contact Luke Vander Horst at (712) 232-5941.

The timing and duration of the water service suspension and road closure is subject to change. Property owners will receive updates regarding any deviations to contractor’s plans. Thank you for your continual patience and cooperation.

April 26, 2024

As the contractor prepares to perform utility work the week of April 29, the central portion of Memorial Road from Marshall Ave to Rolloff Dumpster and Rental will be closed to through traffic. With this closure in effect, please be aware that businesses near the closure are still open and access is available from Lakeshore Dr on the south end of Memorial Rd and from 3rd St on the north end.

April 19, 2024

Due to watermain work along Memorial Road, water service will be temporarily suspended on Wednesday, April 24 between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. and on Thursday, April 25 between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. Affected residents and business will be notified via doorhangers prior to the shutdown.
